DC Nominations

This page is for club and school officials only.

When it comes to nominating players for the Hampshire DC, please take the time to read this page and, if you need help, do not hesitate to contact our Performance Director to discuss.

Only a registered Junior Prime Contact can nominate players from a school or club. For more information on this, visit our JPC page here.

As a rule of thumb, we only accept players who either live or go to school in Hampshire, or who attend a Hampshire affiliated club. If space allows, we will consider players from other counties.

Once you have completed the online nominations (and please NOT before), advise the parents/guardians to visit our DC page to start the registration process. There is no point asking players to register before the nomination is made, as the system will not process the application until the player can be matched to a nomination.

The page parents need to visit to start the registration is:

DC Nomination Criteria

In past cycles the HHPP coaching team have found an increasing number of players being nominated who are lacking knowledge and consistency of execution in the EH core skills required to progress within the player pathway.

Players being considered for Development Centre nomination by their clubs and schools need to have an adequate understanding and consistent execution of core skills as this is something they will not be taught within the centres.

Within the Development Centres the coaching team are looking to take the players into an environment where we can help them develop the core skills they have already learned at their clubs and schools, and start to stretch them by putting a far greater focus on the players' decision making and adaptability, in the constant high intensity of a match environment.

Ultimately, we are looking for players with the following attributes;

  • Highly skilled
  • Effective decision makers
  • Effective under pressure
  • Creative
  • Self-Organised and Adaptable
  • Right attitude, Right time
  • Fast and execute skill under the high intensity of a match

The coaching team will highlight and nurture these qualities in every session, ensuring the players have fun whilst doing it, giving them the best possible start possible within the Player Pathway.

Age groups for the 2024 Hampshire DC

Age groups for all Hampshire Player Pathway activity is run along academic years, not year of birth as in the recent past. This is in line with school and club hockey, and means that for the 2024-25 county cycle, players qualify as follows:

U13 - born on or between 01 Sep 2011 - 31 August 2012

U14 - born on or between 01 Sep 2010 - 31 August 2011

U15 - born on or between 01 Sep 2009 - 31 August 2010

U16 - born on or between 01 Sep 2008 - 31 August 2009

U17 - born on or between 01 Sep 2007 - 31 August 2008

We will consider taking 1 year young players for U13 but only if their nomination is supported by a letter or email from their club coach, min. L2 qualified. Unfortunately, there have been too many instances in the past where players a year too young were put forward for DC but were not ready for it. This is no good for the player or the centre, so please only nominate year-young players as an exception.

Goalkeepers

Please ONLY nominate goalkeepers if they are particularly talented, and NOT to "give them a bit of training". In the last couple of years we have had to start doing pre-DC trials for U13 GKs and have rejected half of them. Some even showed up without a kit...

Please make sure any GK you nominate, at the very least own their own kit or, if they have to borrow school or club kit, that this is complete, whole and fits!
